Why we are conventional not organic

We are conventional because science has not shown there is any nutritional advantage in organically produced food over conventional.  Also, we believe that the major use of manures in organic farms can increase the chance for food borne illness.    We use no manure based fertilizer at Blueyouth Berries.

Roasted Okra

1 lb. okra
olive oil
sea salt
Remove the stem ends of the okra.  Toss in a bowl with drizzled olive oil, and sprinkle with sea salt.  Cook in 400 degree oven for 15 minutes.  Delicious!  May also be done with broccoli or califlower.

Berry or Fruit Cobbler

Cobbler Topping
1 Cup Bisquick
¾ cup sugar
2/3 cup milk
Cinnamon to taste
Mix above together, spread evenly on greased baking pan (or 
spray with cooking spray), then top evenly with filling below:
5 to 6 cups blueberries, blackberries or peaches (blackberries and 
fresh peaches are a great combination)
Juice of one lemon
½ cup of apple juice, blueberry juice, or other fruit juice
The filling will come to the top when cooked. Sprinkle additional 
sugar and cinnamon on top if desired.

Lemon Blueberry Scones

2 cups unbleached flour, plus more for rolling berries
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
⅓ cup sugar
1 Tbs lemon zest 
¼ cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut in chunks
¾ cup buttermilk or cream
1 egg
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries 
milk for brushing (optional)
raw sugar for sprinkling (optional)
Preheat oven to 400º F.
In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and lemon zest; mix

Blueberry Lemon Iced Tea

1 (16-oz.) package frozen blueberries 
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice 
4 cups water 
3 family-size tea bags 
3/4 cup sugar 
Bring 1 (16-oz.) package frozen blueberries and 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice to a boil in a large saucepan over medium 
heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and pour through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a 
bowl, using back of a spoon to squeeze out juice. Discard solids. Wipe saucepan clean.

Blackberry Cornbread

2 cups buttermilk self-rising white cornmeal mix
½ cup all purpose flour
¼ cup butter, melted
1 large egg
1 1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup sugar
¼ cup sour cream, optional
2 cups blackberries
Heat a well greased ovenproof skillet at 450 degrees for 5 minutes.
Stir together all ingredients in a bowl except berries. Fold in blackberries. Pour batter into the hot

Blueberry Cheese Danish

2 tubes refrigerated crescent rolls
2 eggs, separated
2 packages of 8 oz cream cheese
1 cup sugar
2 cups blueberries
1 Tablespoon sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Place one of the crescent roll packages on the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch baking pan, covering the bottom.
In a mixing bowl, mix 2 egg yolks, softened cream cheese, and sugar until creamy. Fold in blueberries. 
Spread on top of the dough in the baking pan. Roll out the other package of crescent rolls on top.
